Department of Public Services provides the citizens of Grays
Harbor County with services vital to the enjoyment of our
quality of life here "on the harbor". The Department of Public
Services is made up of the following divisions:

Civic Participation Opportunities
Volunteer citizen boards serve an important role in democratic
local government. Boards are an excellent mechanism for eliciting
constructive citizen input, for putting to use the talents
of individual citizens as volunteers, and for bringing to
local government the perspective of the citizen removed from
day-to-day administration. Service on a board familiarizes
citizens with their community and develops potential community
leaders, and it gives them the chance to implement their beliefs
about which community needs should be addressed and how they
should be met. Finally, boards provide citizens a way to practice
the spirit of giving and philanthropy, a way to serve their
fellow citizens.
Grays Harbor County is enhanced by the citizen volunteers
who serve on the four boards and commissions within the
Public Services Department. Some of the boards are advisory
in certain areas while others have the authority to render
binding decisions.
When a vacancy occurs, the respective County Commissioner
notifies the news media, recognized associations, and people
who have indicated an interest in applying. Letters of interest
are submitted to the Commissioner's office. The letters
are reviewed and a recommendation is made to the Board of
County Commissioners.

- Solid Waste Advisory Council (SWAC), consisting of 15
members
- Building Code Advisory Council (BCAC), consisting of
7 members
- Planning Commission, consisting of 9 members
- Board of Adjustments (BOA), consisting of 7 members
