Waste
Utilities and Development
manages the Solid Waste Program. The Solid Waste Program provides a
variety of services to the general public that is defined in the Solid
Waste Management Plan, and coordinates various programs with private
contractors. These include curbside recycling, recycling drop boxes,
recycling and waste reduction programs, hazardous waste disposal and
education, motor oil recycling sites, home composting education, and
transfer stations.
The Solid Waste Management Plan has been a coordinated process utilizing
county staff and a Solid Waste Advisory Committee
(SWAC). The Solid Waste Program is guided by the SWAC. This committee
is a panel that represents a balance of interests including, but not
limited to citizens, public interest groups, business, the waste management
industry, and local elected officials.
