Used
Motor Oil Collection Sites
How
to Recycle Your Used Motor Oil
Motor oil never wears
out - it just gets dirty. Grays Harbor County has many oil recycling
collection sites, they are marked with an asterisk (*) in the list below.
Simply follow these easy steps:
 |
Drain the used
oil into a sealable, reusable container. |
 |
Keep the oil
pure. Keep in the container sealed and clear of rainwater, debris
or substances such as solvents, gasoline, thinners or antifreeze.
Used motor oil cannot be accepted for recycling if it is mixed
with these substances. Please bring contaminated oil to the Household
Hazardous Waste Facility instead. |
 |
Pour oil into
the collection tank, and take your container back with you to
use again. |
The following list
includes the County’s oil recycling drop sites (marked with an
asterisk *), as well as other commercial sites located in your community.
Listing these other oil recycling locations is not an endorsement for
these companies, and it may be an incomplete list. If your company recycles
oil and you would like to list it on this website, contact the Solid
Waste Program at (360) 249-4222.
Here’s
the Dirt
 |
At more than
40 percent of the total, used oil is the largest single source of
oil pollution in our nations waterways. |
 |
Used oil can
seep through soils and landfills to contaminate ground water supplies. |
 |
More than 2 million
galllons of used motor oil are dumped on the ground, poured down
storm drains, or put in the trash every year in Washington. |
 |
The oil from
just one oil change is enough to contaminate one million gallons
of drinking water. That’s a year’s supply for fifty
people. |
 |
Oil dumped in
storm drains may go right into Grays Harbor, killing fish, birds
and other aquatic life. |
 |
Oil takes decades
to decompose. |
 |
In Washington,
it’s against the law to dump oil on the ground, in surface
waters or in solid waste landfills. |
 |
Used oil never
wears out...it just gets dirty. Oil can be reprocessed and reused
over and over again, saving energy, costs and non-renewable petroleum
resources. Re-refined oil has exactly the same properties as oil
produced from virgin crude. When you use it your car will never
know the difference! |

Close the Loop!
The only way to close the recycling loop is to purchase recycled products.
Re-refined oil is now available from many suppliers. By using and Requesting
re-refined oil and antifreeze for your vehicle, you’ll be taking
the final step in the cycle.
