Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC)

Committee Responsibilities
The Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC) provides assistance to the county to ensure its citizens that the county shall provide and economical and environmentally safe system of waste reduction, recovery and disposal. The SWAC reviews all issues affecting Grays Harbor County’s solid waste programs, and makes recommendations to the Grays Harbor County Board of County Commissioners. Among other things, the committee examines garbage operations and rates, curbside recycling services, the solid waste budget and public information efforts. One of the committee’s most important tasks is to help craft a five-year “Solid Waste Comprehensive Management Plan” – a blueprint for how Grays Harbor County and cities manage garbage now and in the future.

Committee Membership
The Solid Waste Advisory Committee is made up of 15 members, five from each Commissioners district. They represent a balance of interests including, but not limited to citizens, public interest groups, business, the waste management industry, and local elected officials. The committee meets on the third Tuesday of the month, and all meetings are open to the public.

For a current list of members or to find out about the next scheduled meeting, please call or e-mail, Mark Cox, at (360) 249-4222 ext. 436.
