Recycling Cart Information

HOW TO ORDER/REPLACE A CART

  • If you currently have garbage service and participate in the old curbside program, you will receive a cart by default.  If you are not currently recycling at the curb you must contact your hauler to sign up for the recycling service.
  • City of Hoquiam residents must contact Hometown Sanitation for program details.

WHEN IS YOUR RECYCLING DAY?

You will receive an information packet delivered with your recycling cart which includes your hauler's recycling collection schedule, or you may contact your hauler to determine your recycling collection day.

Alternatives For Residents With Long, Steep Driveways and Special Needs:

Some residents may have concerns that they will be unable to use the 96-gallon recycling cart because of long, steep driveways or the inability to transport or store the large cart. The haulers have crafted a number of options and will work with you to design a solution which meets your needs. Please contact your hauler to discuss an alternative recycling solution.

Benefits Of Recycling Cart::

  • Wheels and a handle make the cart easy to move.
  • No need to sort recyclables.
  • One container means just one trip to the curb.
  • Eliminates the need to set out mixed paper in a sack or stack cardboard under the bins to keep it from littering the neighborhood.
  • All recyclables can fit in the cart. Please note: items left outside the cart (such as cardboard) will not be picked up.
  • The snug, waterproof lid keeps our rain, insects and prying eyes.

Cart Placement Instructions

Please follow these guidelines for cart placement on your recycling day:

  • Cart handles must face the house; lid opening must face the street.
  • Put cart within 3 feet of the traveled portion of the road.
  • Cart should be at least 3 feet from basketball hoops, trees, cars, mailboxes and other containers. DO NOT block mailboxes at any time.
  • Allow 18 feet of space above cart so the automated robotic 'arm' on the collection truck has room to lift the cart.
  • Set your cart out by 6 a.m. on your scheduled recycling day.
  • Please remove empty cart from the curb as soon as possible.

What to do with the old recycling bins

  • You may keep the three plastic recycling bins from the former recycling program to use as you wish.
  • Unwanted bins may be dropped off at the Central Transfer Station, 4201 Olympic Hwy, Aberdeen.

Some suggestions for reusing the old bins:

  • Designate a bin to transport glass to a glass drop-off site.
  • Store a bin in the kitchen to collect recyclables, then carry the full bin outside and empty it into the cart.
  • Clean bins make great storage containers for potatoes and onions, children's toys, extension cords, small tools, etc.
