AHAB Testing and Siren Activation
AHAB SIREN TESTING AND ACTUAL SIREN ACTIVATION TODAY
The Grays Harbor County’s All Hazard Alert Broadcast (AHAB) Sirens were activated today as part of the regular monthly testing schedule. There were reports from all areas of the County that the test sounded the Westminster Chimes, then sounded the
and then the Westminster Chimes again, followed by a verbal message stating “Tsunami, volcano, hazardous materials”. The appropriate test procedure would had been to sound the Westminster chimes for 10 seconds and then a 15 second message stating that The following is a test of the siren warning system. It is only a test. This is a test of the siren warning system. If this had been a real emergency, you should tune your radio to your local radio station or listen to this system for further instructions. This was only a test.”
At no time was there ever a threat to the citizens of Grays Harbor County. It was an activation issue during the regularly scheduled test today and should be corrected prior to the next regularly scheduled test on July 5, 2010.
Grays Harbor County Emergency Management is in contact with the Washington Emergency Management Division to determine the cause of the actual siren sounding as part of the test.
